Proxy - SSTTEK Academy

Proxy

A proxy is generally an intermediary server or service that performs actions indirectly over an internet connection. It acts as a middleman between a client and the internet. Instead of connecting directly to the Internet, the client (such as a computer or phone) connects to the proxy server, which then forwards the request to the Internet and returns the response.

The main purposes of using a proxy are as follows:

  • Privacy: Helps users hide their real IP addresses.
  • Security: Can filter content to protect against harmful material.
  • Access Control: Used to block or redirect access to certain websites.
  • Performance Improvement: Caches frequently used data for faster access.
  • Bypassing Geographical Restrictions: Enables access to content without being affected by geographic restrictions.
